A Brief Introduction to College of Humanities and Sciences of Guizhou Minzu University
 


 

College of Humanities and Sciences of Guizhou Minzu University, approved by the Ministry of Education of PRC, is an administratively independent full-time college of higher learning in new mechanism, jointly founded and run by Guizhou Minzu University and private capital. In 2010, the College was elected one of the “National Advanced Independent Colleges” all over the country.

ounded in 2001, the College is located in Huaxi district, a beautiful tourist attraction with long history and rich cultural legacy in Guizhou province. It is adjacent both to Guizhou Minzu University and Guizhou University. With beautiful green hills standing behind, the 6-kilometre-long National Wetland Park of Huaxi lying peacefully at the foot and the newly-constructed Confucius School situated on the opposite mountain across the Huaxi River, the College is an ideal place for learning with its lush greenery, fresh air and beautiful gardens.
The College covers a total area of over 700 mu, which is divided into two campuses with approximately 80,000m2 for classroom buildings and 80,000m2 for teaching administration buildings. It is equipped with advanced teaching facilities of more than 30 million yuan. The College is constructing a new campus of 570 mu in Huaxi University Town. Currently the new campus construction has been started.
The College has a highly-efficient team of management with the chancellor in charge led by the board trustees striving for progress, reform and innovation, and seeking common development for the future of the college.
Upholding the idea of relying on teaching resources, recruiting outstanding teachers, and cultivating excellent students”,  the College continues to build its own professional teams. By taking advantage of the high-quality educational and academic resources of other higher educational institutions such as Guizhou Minzu University and Guizhou University, the College has widely engaged a large number of national and provincial renowned teachers, outstanding entrepreneurs and social celebrities as its honorable professors, guest professors and part-time professors to form a strong teaching team. Furthermore, the College can share education and teaching resources of a dozen colleges and universities in and out of Guizhou Province.
The college consists of 6 departments: Literature Department, Engeneering Department, Law Department, Management Department, Education and Art Department and Common Course Department, offers 29 undergraduate programs in seven disciplines: law, education, literature, science, engineering, management and art studies.
 At present, the College has enrolled more than 7400 full-time undergraduate students from 12 provinces, such as Guizhou, Shangdong, Shanxi, Henan and Hunan Provinces, etc. So far, the College has trained up for the society over 8000 qualified graduates, who have become strong intellectual support to the economic and social development of China, especially of Guizhou Province.
The College has established cooperation relationship with Ji’nan University, Southwest University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Central China Normal University and other famous colleges and universities. Meanwhile, through “Guizhou one-thousand students exchange plan” program, the college has selected each year over 20 excellent students to renowned colleges and universities at home and abroad to study, including Da-yeh University in Taiwan, Vanung University, Yuan Ze University, Plekhanov Economic University in Russia, Northern University of Malaysia, Technological University of Malaysia, University of Fraser Valley, etc.  At present, the College has cooperated with Université de Haute Alsace-Mulhouse, Université du Havre, and Glyndwr University to carry out new students training modes, such as undergraduate “2 + 2”, “3 + 1”, and graduate “4+ X, etc.
In 2015, in order to promote discipline construction, the College, together with the Literary Theory Research Office of Guizhou Federation of Literature and Art,  and Guizhou Literary Theorists Association jointly runs the Today’s Literary World, which is one of Guizhou literary theory criticism publications. Today’s Literary World,founded in 1981, is the only literary theory criticism journal in Guizhou Province, and published by Guangming Daily Press, whose academic directions cover literature, music, dance, art, history, culture and other disciplines.
