About the College of Humanities and Sciences, Guizhou University of Nationalities

College of Humanities and Sciences, Guizhou University of Nationalities (College for short), as an independent college with new mechanism, was authorized by Guizhou Provincial Government （No.[2001]252）in May, 2001, and acknowledged by the Ministry of Education （No.[2004]9） in Jan., 2004. It has been run by Guizhou University of Nationalities and social force. College is close to the north part of Guizhou University of Nationalities, with hills behind and the Huaxi River in front.

 

Guizhou University of Nationalities signed the educational cooperative agreement with Guizhou Pengcheng Real Estate Inc. in May, 2004. In August, 2007, the agreement was revised. According to it, Guizhou University of Nationalities supplied the intangible assets such as co-education, while Pengcheng Company with capital investment. The land certificate number of the independent campus is “No.[2010]17840”. Pengcheng company now has a total investment of 0.21 billion. College exercised Dean Responsibility under the leadership of the Board. Mr. Liu Shipeng took the responsibility of the chairman of the Board and the legal representative, the registration number is “No.0100—010010”. The board of supervisors was also founded, in which Mr. He Biao was appointed as commissioner by Guizhou Bureau of Education. The number of school license awarded by Guizhou Bureau of Education is 5200001000003 and the code of college organization awarded by Guizhou Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision is 66695920-X. Since College has moved into the new campus in July 2008, it has realized independent financial accountability. Every year, it will accept the social audit. After the independent recruitment of students, College carries on independent teaching management, issues independent academic diplomas, and undertakes independent civil liability. It increases another 500 Mu land now. The Construction of College is listed as the Guizhou provincial priority project.

Depending on the superiority of Guizhou University of Nationalities, College set up 8 departments and 24 majors or directions according to the demands of development of economic society, they are Department of Law, Department of Management Science, Department of Computer Science, Department of Foreign Language, Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Music, Department of Physical Education and Department of Fine Arts. The students are from the whole country, so far, enrolled student has reached about 5700. College invites 40 specialized senior experts in or out the province to take adjunct professor. The teachers are nearly 300, among them, professors and associate professors are about 160 people, which occupies 50% above. And 40% above teachers have master degree.

 

“Cultivating the Mind, Being Self-confident, Being Eager to Learning and Working Perseveringly” as motto, College pays great attention the improvement of the students’ overall quality. In view of the students’ characteristics, it revises training program, focuses on teaching and strengthens application ability to form the specialty of the school. A variety of beneficial extracurricular activity has broadened the student’s vision; numerous organizations provide the broad stage for the student to display their talent. College also encourages the student to participate in kinds of competition. In the past three years, many students obtained achievements in the competition and the state-level test. In addition, College strengthens the cooperative education unceasingly. It has established cooperation with Jinan University, Southwestern University successively and signed the exchange agreement for teaching and scientific research. Every year 50 outstanding students will be sent there studying one year.

 

College continues to explore and optimize school structure, carries out the innovation education positively, pays great attention to enhance student’s specialized accomplishment and the practical ability and cultivates talented person’s innovation ability and development spirit. Since the college established, it has already provided more than 3700 qualified graduates. In July 2010, College was elected as “the National Advanced Independent College” among 322 independent colleges all over the country. Dean Wei was awarded “Excellent Worker of the National Independent College”.
